Yeast infection is common among women of childbearing age, but anyone can acquire it - man or woman, infant or adult.

Oral yeast infections usually affect newborn babies, especially those of women already infected with vaginal yeast infection. Oral thrush may also be present in adults who do not follow hygienic measures when using dentures. Those who suffer from immunodeficiency diseases such as AIDS are also prone to develop oral thrush. Yeast infection can be transferred to the mouth through oral sex.

Here are the symptoms of oral thrush:

•  Thick white cream-colored deposits along the mucous membrane inside the oral cavity

•  Burning pain in the mouth or throat

•  Altered taste, especially when eating sweet or spicy food

•  Difficulty in swallowing

•  White or pinkish-red blotches on the tongue and gums, the sides and roof of the mouth, and the back of the throat.

•  Sores, cracks, or chapping at the corners of the mouth.

For women, vaginal yeast infection symptoms include:

•  Thick white or whitish gray vaginal discharge resembling cottage cheese

•  Itching and burning in or around the vagina

•  Rash and tenderness in the outer lips of the genitalia

•  Pain during urination or sexual intercourse

Males may acquire yeast infection through sexual encounter with an infected partner. Here are the male yeast infection symptoms that guys have to watch out for:

•  Red rash and itching at the tip of the penis

•  Burning sensation during intercourse

•  Whitish discharge coming out from the tip
