Candida and Swimming

If you have a yeast infection, you may be wondering if it's safe to go swimming. Whether it's a vaginal yeast infection, oral thrush or a general feeling that you have en excess population of yeast in your body, it is important to understand what may help your symptoms and what will aggravate them.

While the exercise involved in swimming can be helpful for candida sufferers, those with yeast infections can be concerned about swimming for several reasons.

  1. Wearing a wet bathing suit for a long time can aggravate vaginal yeast infections or cause them because yeast loves moisture. The solution here is to change into dry clothes and dry your body well after swimming. Using something like a cornstarch based baby powder can help keep the area dry. There are powders made for women specifically and for use in this area. Refrain from using talc powders in the pubic area.
  2. Concerned that you might spread candida in a public pool or lake or worried you could catch it from a public pool? This should not be a concern. In terms of spreading candida from one person to another, that's only done through sexual contact and not from swimming in the same water.

How Exercise Can Benefit Those With Yeast Infections

Exercises will do a number of things to help the body in battling excessive candida levels. Not only does the sweating your body does help you to release toxins but the act of exercise of any sort will help oxygenate the body and oxygen can eradicate candida by creating a high pH balance in the body which will prevent your yeast levels from surpassing a level of safety. Once the level is surpassed, that's when the unpleasant symptoms start.

Fighting candida may take several approaches including changes to your diet as well as supplements and fighting yeast in your body is another reason to consider doing more regular exercise.
