Candida Esophagitis
What is Candida Esophagitis? This condition is a yeast infection in your esophagus. This condition can be serious and often happens in the case of a person with a poor immune system such as someone with HIV or AIDS or someone being treated for Cancer.
Candida Esophagitis can happen to you even if you are a normally healthy person so it's not an indication of HIV. Often, a person taking antibiotics will get a candida infection because the positive flora are killed off in their bodies which gives candida albicans yeast a chance to take over and get out of control.
Symptoms of this condition include difficulty swallowing and oral thrush. Very often, white patches can be visible and seen by a doctor looking into the patient's throat. Medication will be prescribed that not only kills the fungus but also helps with the pain.
How is this condition treated?
Candida Esophagitis can be treated with medication that kills the candida albicans bacteria. While this bacteria is naturally present in our bodies, yeast infections happen when the bacteria levels get out of control. It's very prudent when a person is dealing with a low immune system to take precautions to keep positive/healthy flora flourishing in the body and to keep candida at bay by eating a healthy diet and perhaps even following a candida diet. It's also a good idea to consider taking probiotic supplements, eat probiotic yogurt regularly and take organic apple cider vinegar as well as try to maintain a healthy alkaline pH level in the body.
Candida infections of this type can be from candida albicans but can also include an overgrowth of other yeast bacteria such as tropicalis, glabrata and parapsilosis.
