Boric Acid to Treat Candida Overgrowth
Candida can be a tricky fungus. In some cases, when it overgrows and takes over a body it can be seemingly impossible to eliminate. Among the candida conditions most challenging to treat is the vaginal yeast infection. Characterized by itching, burning, irritation and discharge, the yeast infection often proves to be resistant to many treatments. However, boric acid—also known as borax—has shown to be an inexpensive and effective natural remedy for candida yeast infections.
Many medical doctors will suggest over-the-counter creams and medications as well as prescriptions to try to control the overgrowth and improve yeast infection symptoms. Even natural practitioners have a list of suggested treatments for the condition such as tea tree oil, garlic clove suppositories, and apple cider vinegar or plain yogurt douches. While sometimes these treatments can improve symptoms for a time, a resistant infection often requires something more potent like boric acid.
Boric acid is best to try if you are experiencing multiple yeast infections in a year. Four episodes during the course of a year means the yeast infection is recurrent and that serious action is required in order to clear up the problem.
How Boric Acid Works
Destroying the candida fungus and restoring the body's pH balance is the key to knocking out a recurring yeast infection. When the body has a yeast problem, it has an alkaline pH environment. The introduction of boric acid to the system creates an acidic pH to counteract the alkaline, restoring the proper balance in one's body, as it is impossible for the candida fungus to thrive in a balanced pH environment.
It is important to remember that boric acid or borax is poisonous and can cause harm if not used properly. However, when used in capsules inserted into the vagina, the substance is a safe and effective way to treat a candida yeast infection.
To make capsules:
- Use boric acid powder
- Purchase size “0” gelatin capsules (found in pharmacy)
- Either fill the capsules yourself or ask a pharmacist to do it for you
This simple remedy may be more effective for resistant yeast infections than any other combination of treatments you could try, because it works to restore pH balance, which kills the candida overgrowth, treating the source not just the symptoms.
